Scorpions are a type of arachnid found in the United States primarily in dry desert areas. Although scorpion stings are rarely fatal --- only 20 to 25 of the 15,000 species of scorpions are considered dangerous --- you still don't want one loose in a room of your house. This can occur if a scorpion has wandered into your dwelling from outside, or if a pet scorpion has gotten loose from its cage. To coax out a baby scorpion that might be hiding in your room, use your knowledge about scorpions' habits.
Things You'll Need
- Lamps, flashlights, lighting tools
- Bug spray or insecticide
- Glue traps
- Flashlight with UV bulb
Rid your room off all possible hiding places. For example, hang up or launder piles of clothes, pull the bed upward and on its side and pull furniture away from the wall.
Eliminate all dark spots from your room. A baby scorpion is most likely to hide in a dark, out-of-the-way place. Use lamps, flashlights and other lighting tools to create a space that has no dark areas.
Remove all bugs and insects from the room with bug spray or insecticide. Scorpions, even baby ones, feed on insects. If you eliminate its source of food, you force it to come out of hiding.
Place a glue trap by every possible exit in the room. The baby scorpion stumbles into the glue trap when trying to make its escape.
Shine a flashlight with a UV bulb (black light) on all the dark areas of the room. This type of light illuminates the scorpion. If you see the baby scorpion, grab it with a pair of forceps and remove it from your home.
