How to Change Bumper Pads

How to Change Bumper Pads thumbnail
A bumper pad wraps around the inside of a crib.

Bumper pads are long, thin cushion-like pads wrapped in fabric that extend around the inside walls of a crib. The purpose of a bumper pad is to keep a baby from banging into the hard side of the crib. You will need to remove and reapply bumper pads when you wash or replace them. The process of changing bumper pads is a relatively quick and simple one.

Instructions

    • 1

Untie the fabric ties that hold the bumper pad to the crib. These ties are usually located at multiple points on the top and bottom of the pad.

    • 2

Lift the bumper pad out of the crib.

    • 3

Return a bumper pad to the crib by placing the pad inside the crib and aligning it with the inside walls of the crib.

    • 4

Tie the bumper pad to the crib tightly so that there is no slack in the material.

Tips & Warnings

  • Bumper pads that are pillow-like in texture can potentially be a choking hazard for babies.
