How to Get the Right Measurements for Replacement Windows
Get replacement windows for increased energy efficiency or to give your house a new look. Although replacement windows are often measured and installed by a professional, a seasoned do-it-yourselfer can easily do the job. Make sure that when you take measurements for vinyl, glass or plastic replacement windows, both width and height measurements are taken. Does this Spark an idea?

Measure from the top left to the top right corner, taking the measurement from the inside of the pocket that the window sash slides into.

Repeat your measurements at the midpoint of the window and then at the bottom. You will want to repeat your measurements at multiple points to be sure that your measurements are uniform.

Repeat your measurements once again from the top to the bottom. Put the tape measure right where the upper window sash closes and all the way down to the highest point of the sloped sill.

Repeat all measurements again to confirm. Be sure to write down all the measurements as you go along for reference when you go to purchase replacement windows.

Tips & Warnings
The Replacements Windows website notes that you should mention the width first and then the height when marking the size.
Be sure that your measurements are exact. You never want to go too large with the measurements because that will result in having to order a new unit.
