How to Use a Camera to Convert Slides to Digital

How to Use a Camera to Convert Slides to Digital thumbnail
You can convert your film based slides to digital.

For years, 35 mm slide film was the medium of choice for professional photographers. Slides also served as a popular method for displaying images to groups of people. Today, slides are outdated and eventually will deteriorate (how quickly will depend on the condition in which the film is stored). To help preserve the images, convert the slides to a digital format. Expensive slide scanners can perform this task, or you can take the slides to a local photography store, but this is also going to add up as you are charged a flat fee per slide. Instead, you can convert your slides to digital images using a standard digital camera.

Instructions

    • 1

Aim the slide projector at a projector screen or a clean, white surface.

    • 2

Place the digital camera on a tripod directly behind the slide projector. Focus the camera on the projected surface, making sure you don't see any of the background or any other object outside of the projected image.

    • 3

Click the "Capture" button on the digital camera to save the slide as a digital file. Repeat this process with every slide you want to save as a digital file.
