How to Go on the Budwig Diet Plan

How to Go on the Budwig Diet Plan thumbnail
The Budwig diet involves taking flaxseed and cottage cheese.

Dr. Johanna Budwig, a German biochemist, developed the Budwig diet plan to help cancer sufferers achieve better health. She found that cancer patients had low levels of Omega-3 essential fatty acids in their blood. She then devised a diet plan to restore balance to cancerous bodies. The diet plan involves taking flaxseed oil and cottage cheese. Budwig claimed patients on the diet felt better and had smaller tumors or no tumors within three months.

    • 2

Grind 2 tbsp.of whole flaxseeds and add it to the mixture. Use flaxseeds within 20 minutes of grinding to prevent them from becoming rancid.

    • 3

Add 1 tsp. of raw, nonpasteurized honey to the mixture and stir the mixture thoroughly.

    • 4

Add flavorings to make the mixture more palatable, if necessary. Some ingredients you can add include sugar-free apple sauce, cayenne pepper, Celtic sea salt, cinnamon, vanilla, lemon juice, chopped almonds or hazelnuts.

    Budwig Mayonnaise

    • 5

Pour 3 tbsp. of flaxseed oil, 3 tbsp. of milk and 3 tbsp. of cottage cheese into a blender and mix them thoroughly.

    • 6

Add 1 tbsp. mustard, 1 tbsp. lemon juice, 2 tbsp. apple cider vinegar and 1/2 tsp. herb-flavored salt to the mixture and stir.

    • 7

Add herbs, soy sauce or dill pickles to add flavor to the mixture.

    Daily Plan

Drink a glass of Acidophilus milk or sauerkraut juice before breakfast.

    • 10

Drink a glass of fresh carrot, apple, celery or beet-apple juice at about 10 a.m.

    • 11

Eat a raw salad with the Budwig mayonnaise as the dressing for lunch appetizer. Vegetables you can use in the salad include carrots, radishes and cauliflower. Add horseradish, chives or parsley for flavor.

    • 12

Eat steamed vegetables, potatoes or grains for the main lunch course. Add either the Budwig muesli or mayonnaise to the meal. Add herbs for flavor.

    • 13

Mix fresh fruits with the Budwig muesli and use cream of lemon or vanilla for flavoring for dessert at lunch.

    • 14

Have afternoon tea at about 4 p.m. and drink a small glass of natural wine, champagne or fresh fruit juice. Take 1 to 2 tbsp. of honey-coated flaxseeds.

    • 15

Eat dinner at about 6 p.m. Have a hot meal of buckwheat, oat or soy cakes. Add the Budwig muesli to sweet sauces and soups. For sweeteners, use honey or grape juice; don't use sugar.
