Lime oil has many health benefits.

Oil cold pressed from the lime has many health benefits. It is used to treat cold-like symptoms such as headaches, sore throats and blocked sinuses, as well as fatigue and depression. Studies have shown that it is also effective in preventing obesity. It has external applications as well and can help with rheumatism, acne and insect bites. Cold pressing works by pressing oil from the rind of limes after they have been subjected to temperatures of no more than 120 F.

  • Limes
  • Knife
  • Ovenproof dish
  • Oven
  • Mortar and pestle
  • Sieve

Instructions

      Peel limes using a sharp knife.

      Preheat an oven to 113 F. When the desired temperature is reached, place pieces of lime peel in an ovenproof dish and place on a shelf in the oven. Heat for 1 hour.

      Remove lime peel from the oven and put pieces into a pestle. Press the peel with a mortar.

      Pour the extracted oil through a sieve and into a plastic container. Discard the dry peel.

Tips & Warnings

  • When treating medical symptoms, always consult your physician if symptoms persist.

  • When treating depression, ensure lime oil doesn't react with any antidepressant medication you may be taking.

  • Lime oil is photosensitive; do not store it in direct sunlight. If you have applied it to your skin, do not go out in the sun for a minimum of 5 hours.
