How to Convert Bed Sheets for Bunk Beds

Save

The standard size for a bunk bed is twin, and you can easily use twin fitted sheets on bunk bed mattresses with no adjustment necessary. However, all to often the far corners of these sheets will come off during the night -- or during a rambunctious daytime play session. With a top bunk, this out-of-reach fix is far harder than it needs to be. One workaround is to convert a queen size fitted sheet into a durable wrap for your bunk bed mattresses.

Things You'll Need

  • Twin mattress for bunk beds
  • Queen fitted sheet
  • Remove the twin bunk bed mattress from the top bunk.

  • Remove all bedding from the twin mattress.

  • Tuck the long side of the fitted sheet around one side of the mattress. This will be approximately 4 inches too long. Don't worry -- it will tighten as the process goes on.

  • Pull the fitted sheet across the mattress, wrapping it like a sausage casing or egg roll. It should wrap all the way around the mattress, overlapping to fit on the opposite edge of the same corner where you started. This will be a somewhat tight fit, so pull taut at each corner.

  • Set the wrapped mattress up in the bunk bed. Use regular twin sheets and blankets for the rest of the bedclothes.

Tips & Warnings

  • It's hard to find queen-size sheets with "kid-friendly" designs. A fun solution is to decorate a plain white sheet using fabric markers or transfer iron-ons.
