How to Paint Animal Eyes

Animal eyes change drastically from species to species. In addition to the size, the color and structure of the eye will change, but all animal eyes will contain the same basic parts, including the pupil, lens, iris and sclera. Since there are variety of different paints, the paint type will affect the look of the eyes.

  • Obtain a picture of the type of animal eyes you are painting. A picture of the animal's eyes will give you a better understanding of what the animal's eyes look like.

  • Sketch the eyes. Using drawing pencils, lightly draw an outline of the animals eyes. By lightly drawing, you can erase any mistakes without damaging the paper. Draw each part of the eye, including the iris, pupil, sclera, eye socket and any eyelashes the animal may have. Add any details to around the eyes, such as fur.

  • Use the paint to color the eye. Start by painting the pupil area of the eye using the paint brush. Clean the brush and paint the first layer of the iris.

  • Wait for the first layer of paint to dry. Add another layer of color to the iris if the animal's eye contains multiple iris colors. Paint the sclera the appropriate color. Paint any remaining details of the eye, including fur or skin surrounding the eye.
