How to Work on Bi-Fold Andersen Windows

Andersen bi-fold windows are "double hung" to allow their owners to work on or clean them from the inside. The company makes a variety of windows with this theme, most of which follow a basic set of instructions for releasing an opening mechanism. You must follow a specific set of instructions for standard bottom-opened windows. For other varieties, consult the Resources link for the procedures to work on any type of Andersen window.

  • Open the bottom sash of your Andersen bi-fold window by lifting the bottom sash about 3 inches from the window sill.

  • Slide the wash assist levers at the top left and right of the window frame down until they rest ontop of the slightly opened bottom sash.

  • Press the top wash assist levers into the slot at the top left and right of the bottom sash until each clicks into place.

  • Pull outward and downward on the top of the bottom sash until the window swings down, exposing the outside of your Andersen window to the inside.

  • Pull the top section of window down until it sits about 3 inches from where the bottom sash rests.

  • Slide the two latches at the top left and right of the top sash inward to release the catch, allowing you to pull outward and downward to reveal the outside of the top window sash. Work on the top and bottom windows as needed.

  • Return the window to its normal layout by placing the top sash back in upright position, sliding it upward until it clicks in its top position. Rotate the bottom sash up until it's in the upright position, and slide the side wash assist levers up until they click into place at their top corner positions on the window jamb.
