Calling the U.S. from Japan works similarly to calling Japan from the U.S. You will have to dial an exit code and the U.S. country code before dialing the number. Otherwise, the phone system will not recognized that you are trying to call overseas. Japan is 14 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time, so when calling the U.S., keep that in mind. You may also wish to contact your phone company and ask the rate you will be charged when calling the U.S., since international calls are more expensive than domestic calls.
Dial 010 on your phone, which will signal the phone company's automated system that you are dialing an international number.
Dial the U.S. country code of "1" to access the U.S.
Drop any zeros from the beginning of the number.
Dial the U.S. number.
