How to Make a Footstool to Look Like a Dog
Footstools are functional devices that give you a comfortable place to prop up your feet. if you're not into the generic style of footstools, you could always make one yourself that mimics the appearance of a dog. It would make for a fun piece for your home that offers a sense of whimsy and playfulness that's often lacking from standard decor. A dog-like footstool would also be suitable for a child's room.
Things You'll Need
- Footstool rectangle with 4 leg posts
- Measuring tape
- Craft paper
- Faux fur
- Scissors
- Hot glue
- Paint

Measure the sides of the footstool cushion. You need to know the length and width of each of the six sides. Draw out the six sides on a sheet of craft paper making a pattern. Also draw two ears and a tail.

Lay the patterns on the underside of your faux fur sheets. Tape or pin down to hold in place. Cut the patterns out of the fabric and ensure their fit on the footstool by dry fitting, using no glue.

Heat your hot glue gun until it reaches its operating temperature. Glue each of the faux fur pieces onto their correct sides of the footstool cushion. Decide what side will be the head and tail of the dog. Glue the ears at the corners of one side and the tail in the middle of the opposite side. Finish the dog-looking footstool by painting the footstool legs a color matching the fur.
