1
Choose your material. No-pill fleece is widely available in many colors and patterns. Purchase a piece at least 60 inches long to meet the desired length of your scarf.
-
2
Sharp scissors will ensure a clean edge. Lay your fleece material out on a flat surface. Cut the fleece into strips that are 7 inches wide by 60 inches long.
-
-
3
Fold your scarf in half and measure 4 inches from the ends.
-
4
Mark your 4-inch measurement with a piece of masking tape that extends past the fleece and sticks the scarf ends to the work surface.
-
5
Use scissors to cut a fringe. Make a cut every inch or ½ inch to make fringe.
-
6
Use mismatched buttons to adorn your fleece scarf. Stitch on adornments by hand, if desired. When you add a little decorative touch such as scattered buttons, colorful beads, felted shapes or even vintage pins you make the simple fleece scarf much more special.

Tips & Warnings
To make a scarf for a child, cut the fleece into 4-inch by 50-inch strips.
Collect items to adorn your scarves all year round including decorative buttons from the fabric store or vintage army patches.
Personalize each fleece scarf by cutting out a signature "icon" out of felt to serve as your trademark. For example, a small smiley face or heart sewn onto the right corner of the scarf can be your "mark."
Use patterned fleece for special projects. For example, camouflage fleece for service men and cartoon patterned fleece for kids.
Add some functional beauty to your scarf by using a decorative closure and button hole. Fold the scarf as if it were crossed over the neck then cut a buttonhole on one side. Sew a fancy pin, a quilted felt bird, mitten or snowman to serve as the "hook" or button.
Don't buy the wrong kind of fleece. There are many weights of fleece available. Choose a medium weight fleece or a no-pill fleece with some spandex for added warmth and stretch.
