How to Take a Screenshot of Real Player Video

Real Player plays video files packaged in the RealMedia format. It improves video playback by using hardware acceleration, video optimization and image overlays. These features, however, prevent you from taking a screenshot of the video. Disable these features, then use the Microsoft Windows built-in screen capture feature to take a screenshot of the Real Player video.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open Real Player.

    • 2

Click the "Tools" menu, then click "Preferences."

    • 3

Click the "Hardware" link in the left-hand window panel and locate the "Video Card Compatibility" section.

    • 4

Slide the "Video Card Compatibility" slider completely to the left to disable optimized video and overlays. Restart Real Player.

    • 5

Play the video in Real Player. When the video reaches the point at which you want to take a screenshot, press the "Print Scr" key. If you have a laptop, you may need to hold the "Fn" key, then press "Print Scr." Open Microsoft Paint, then press "Ctrl" and "V" together or choose "Paste" from the ribbon at the top of the window. Windows will paste the screenshot into Paint.
