How to Make a Tall Paper Chef Hat
For a five-star look in the kitchen, wear a tall paper chef hat. Servers wear hairnets while cooks wear small caps. The chef wears the tallest hat; easy to spot for compliments and complaints. Whether you want to make a statement as the cook at your dinner party or your toddler wants an appropriate costume for playing restaurant, with a spoon in hand and a tall white hat, there is no mistaking who is in charge in the kitchen.
Things You'll Need
- White poster board
- Scissors
- Paper clips
- Stapler
- 4 sheets of white tissue paper, 20 by 30 inches
- Tape

Use paper clips to hold the hat together temporarily. Cut a band of white poster board 26 inches long by 3 1/2 inches high. Paper clip the ends together so that it forms a snug ring around the chef's head.

Fold three sheets of tissue paper in half the long way. Crumple up the fourth piece into a loose ball and set it aside.

Gather the short ends of the tissue paper slightly and tape them along the top edge of the outside of the poster board head band. Overlap each piece a 1/2 inch and cover the entire band up to the paper-clipped opening but do not cover it.

Gather the opposite ends of the tissue paper high above the head as close to the end of the tissue as possible for a tall hat. Tape around the gather.

Staple the hat together for a snug fit. Remove the paper clips and turn the hat inside out. Form the band around the head so that the taped edges of the tissue paper are now on the inside. Staple the ends together so that it forms a ring around the chef's head that fits snugly.

Place the extra piece of crumpled up tissue paper inside the hat to keep it tall.

Tips & Warnings
Use recycled white plastic grocery bags or white sheets instead of tissue paper for the tall part of the hat if desired.
