How to Remove Flea Shampoo From a Dog's Eyes

Careful washing habits are important for dogs.

A routine bath is an inevitable task for any dog owner, especially in the case of flea infestation. Improper bathing techniques often result in shampoo in the dog's eyes, which can cause itching and burning. While shampoo in the eyes generally has no long-term effects, it's best to wash it out merely for the well-being of the animal. The eye-washing process is straightforward, aside from a bit of expected struggling from the dog.

Things You'll Need

• Towel
• Dog treat
• Eyewash

Instructions

1. Rinse the dog thoroughly and quickly to remove all traces of shampoo. Take the dog out of the tub and dry it off using a towel.

2. Put the dog on a table or countertop. Stand next to the dog, put one arm over it and hold it in place. Do not let the dog wriggle away. If necessary, give the dog a treat to help it calm down.

3. Pull the dog's eyelids open using one hand. Hold a bottle of eyewash about an inch above the dog's eye using the other hand.

4. Drop four or five drops of the eyewash into the dog's eye. Repeat the process on the other eye.

5. Wipe the any excess eyewash away from the fur around the dog's eyes using a paper towel.

• Pet eyewash is available from any pet store or vet. It's best to always have some on hand.
