How to Make a Stop Knot With Pole Elastic

Tie a stop knot in the pole elastic used in tent and hiking poles.

Tent poles, hiking poles and wading staffs are a few of the items used in the outdoors that utilize pole elastic cord. Elastic cord is small in diameter and elastic. The design of the cord makes it ideal for use in connecting various types of poles together. The cord stretches to allow sections of a tent or hiking pole to be folded and keeps the sections together when not in use. The elastic cord also applies enough tension to pole sections when assembled to hold them securely together. You can tie a stop knot in pole elastic to shorten the cord length or provide a stopping point for pole sections.

Instructions

1. Determine the position for tying the stop knot in the pole elastic cord. Hold the cord with a hand on either side of the position where you'll be tying the stop knot.

2. Form a loop in the pole elastic at the point where the stop knot should be located. Turn the cord in the left hand back toward the cord in the right hand to form the loop.

3. Wrap the cord in the left hand around the cord in the right hand two times. Keep the wraps loose and do not pull tight.

4. Feed the free end of the line in the left hand through the wraps and loop formed in the pole elastic.

5. Adjust the location of the knot in the pole elastic, if necessary, and pull on the elastic cord to tighten the knot securely into place.
