How to Change the Heater Core in a 2000 Blazer

Replacing the heater core on your 2000 Chevrolet Blazer seems like an incredibly daunting task, but it is actually fairly simple. You will need a few basic tools to dismantle the dashboard. Once the dashboard is off, you can easily replace the heater core. Although a simple task, it is very time consuming and you should expect to spend close to three hours changing out the 2000 Blazer's heater core.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open the Blazer's hood and disconnect its ground cable from the battery.

      Use a socket wrench to remove the two bolts on each kick panel. The right-side kick panel is below the glove box and the left-side kick panel is below the steering wheel. Disconnect the three wiring harnesses revealed by removing the left-side kick panel.

      Remove the four 5/8 bolts below the steering wheel and drop it onto the driver's seat. Remove the side bolts from the side panels of the dashboard.

      Pry out the four vents along the front of the dashboard. There will be a screw underneath each vent. Remove the screws with a Philips screwdriver.

      Remove the defroster grille at the top of the dashboard and remove the two screws underneath it.

      Lift off the dashboard to reveal two more wiring harnesses. Unclip the two wiring harnesses.

      Pull the dashboard out of the vehicle. Remove the six 7mm bolts around the heater core case. Lift off the case and pull out the old heater core, making sure to remove its wiring harness.

      Install the replacement heater core and reverse the dashboard dismantling process to reinstall the dash. Reconnect the ground cable to the battery.
