How to Troubleshoot Bose Bookshelf Speakers
Bose manufactures a line of compact bookshelf speakers for stereos where space is limited and full-size speakers are impractical, or for use as rear surround-sound speakers in a home theater system. The bookshelf models connect with cables and plug connectors unique to Bose products. Each speaker wire hooks up to a Bose receiver unit, which may also feature a built-in DVD/CD player. Some bookshelf speakers can connect to a powered subwoofer, which is then plugged into a receiver. If you have problems operating your bookshelf speakers, try troubleshooting the units before disconnecting for repairs. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

1
Push in the plug connector with attached speaker wire into the socket on the back of each bookshelf speaker to ensure a good connection.
-
2
Follow the wire from each bookshelf speaker to the back of the receiver, checking for kinks, cuts or other obvious signs of damage, then push the connector firmly into the rear of the receiver.

-
3
Turn on the receiver and press the speaker selector button that activates the connection with the bookshelf speakers. Twist the balance control knob on the receiver to the vertical position to ensure the audio signal is not going exclusively to one bookshelf speaker or another.
-
4
Press the reset button on the rear of each bookshelf speaker to close the circuit breaker. The breaker can trip and shut down the speaker to protect it from a power surge, such as a sudden increase in volume.
-
5
Disconnect a nonworking speaker from the receiver and connect in its place a speaker you know to be working. If the new speaker plays normally, there is an internal problem with the first bookshelf speaker. If the new speaker does not play, the problem may be with the receiver, possibly a loose wire in the jack connection or a malfunctioning amplifier inside. These repairs are best left to a trained electronics technician.
