How to Capture Page Resources

When you host a Windows Web server, keeping track of page resources helps you identify which pages take the most of the server's resources such as memory. It helps you identify the pages, so you can reprogram them or take steps to minimize the amount of resources they use. You can use Performance Monitor, included with Windows Web servers, to capture page resources.

      Click the Windows "Start" button on your Web host. Click "Administrative Tools," then click "Performance Monitor" to open the configuration utility.

      Click the "View" menu item, then click "Log." A new window opens. In the "Edit" section, click "Add to log." A new window opens where you configure the capturing properties.

      Hold down the "Ctrl" button on your keyboard. In the list of capture options, use the mouse to click each of the following page types:

      Active Server Pages

      Internet Information Services Global

      Memory

      Process

      Processor

      Thread

      Web Service

      Click the "Add" button. Click "Done" to close the properties window. Click the "Start Log" button to start the monitoring. Each time a reader opens a Web server page, Performance Monitor logs the amount of resources used to run the page.
