How to Use the New Guitar Hero Guitar with the Old Game

A major feature of the "Guitar Hero" series is the ability to play the game with an imitation guitar controller. New guitar controllers are sometimes released with a new "Guitar Hero" game and for the most part they are backwards compatible with the rest of the series. There are exceptions to this rule, but it depends on many factors, such as the console you play the games on.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the "Guitar Hero" guitar and your games console.

    • 2

Synchronize the guitar with your console. Consult the documentation supplied with your guitar, game and console for additional information regarding your hardware.

    • 3

Turn on your console and insert the "Guitar Hero" game disc of your choice.

    • 4

Start the game and select a play mode from the main menu, such as "Quickplay" or "Career." Select "Guitar" as your instrument when prompted to do so. Pick a song to play from the list and confirm your choice.

    • 5

Match your actions on the guitar in time with the colored bars on the screen, as you would in the latest version of the game.

Tips & Warnings

  • Consult the compatibility charts in the References for information on your exact guitar model and its compatibility with the older games in the series.

  • Some functions on the new guitar that apply to recent games in the series may not be available in older games.

  • "Guitar Hero" guitars cannot be used across different types of consoles. For example, the Xbox 360 guitar will not work with the Wii console.
