How to Replace Oil Seals on Honda Accords

The oil seal on a car is the device that acts to prevent the passage of any fluids along the rotating shaft from any one chamber to another chamber. If your oil is leaking on your Honda Accord you will likely need to replace the oil seals. Replacing the oil seals will not only keep your Honda Accord running in a healthy condition but will keep you from having to replace the oil more than you have to.

Things You'll Need

  • Replacement oil seal
  • Car jack
  • Oil pan
  • Oil filter wrench
  • Oil
  • Warm up your Accord so that the oil will flow. You have to change the oil to change the oil seal.

  • Jack your Accord or put it on blocks.

  • Unscrew the oil drain plug and remove it. Let the oil drain for about 20 minutes.

  • Remove the oil filter with the filter wrench. Set the filter in the oil pan to allow it to drain.

  • Remove the seal from the filter top. Dispose of the old seal and used oil.

  • Coat the seal with new oil with your finger. Reattach the oil drain plug and the oil filter.

  • Fill the oil reservoir under the hood with fresh oil. Let your Accord run for a moment, allowing the oil to circulate.
