How to Make a Hedgehog Costume

Save

Hedgehogs are nocturnal mammals found on every continent but North America and Australia. The trademark of a hedgehog is his spiny coat, which he uses as a last resort when attacked by predators. While many people dress as cats and dogs on Halloween, you can dress up as a hedgehog for something different. A hedgehog costume is a unisex outfit that both children and adults can enjoy. You can make a hedgehog costume at home with items picked up from your local craft store.

Things You'll Need

  • Brown, tan, black and gray 8 1/2-by-11-inch foam sheets
  • Paper cutter or scissors
  • Sheet of cardboard
  • Brown over-sized T-shirt
  • Hot glue gun
  • Brown baseball cap
  • Black eyeliner
  • Brown pants or tights
  • Brown shoes
  • Purchase several 8 1/2-by-11-inch foam sheets in brown, tan, black and gray at your local craft store. Cut the sheets into 8 1/2-by-1/4-inch strips with a paper cutter or scissors.

  • Place a sheet of cardboard inside a brown over-sized T-shirt. Begin at the bottom of the T-shirt and glue the strips of foam to the back side of the shirt with a hot glue gun. Leave about 1/4 inch between each strip and alternate the colors. Layer each row of foam strips on top of the next until you reach the top of the T-shirt. Remove the cardboard.

  • Turn a brown baseball cap backwards. Glue strips of foam to the baseball cap with the strips extending over the rim of the hat. Alternate the colors.

  • Draw a circle at the tip of your nose with black eyeliner, and color it in.

  • Put on the shirt and wear the baseball cap backwards on your head. Complete the costume with a pair of brown pants or tights and brown shoes.
