Finding the nutritional value of some foods is difficult and could be what is stopping you from losing weight. This is because not all recipes offer you an upfront resource that tells you what its nutritional value is. However, you can do something about it. Finding out what the nutritional value of a recipe is simple as long as you know where to look.

  • Check the packaging of the food used in the recipe. Most foods come with a listing of what is contained inside. This is often found on the label or box that the food was originally contained in. The box will usually list the nutritional value of the recipe after it is cooked. This way, you can monitor everything that you are consuming when you combine one product with another.

  • Check the cookbook or magazine that the recipe comes from. Many cookbooks include the nutritional value of each of its recipes. The values listed in the magazine will be for when the recipe is cooked, not when the ingredients are in their raw form.

  • Check an online database. Some websites have databases dedicated to listing all known nutritional values of a food. Weight Watchers is a fantastic site for this, as it will tell you exactly what is in the food you are eating. What is even more impressive about this site is that most recipes that are consumed regularly can be found in its expansive database. Many popular recipes are also contained in these databases, so simply search for the recipe that you are looking for. However, if the recipe that you are using has been altered in some way, the nutritional value that the database gives you might not be entirely accurate.

  • Contact the manufacturer of the food. If the food is processed or distributed by a certain company, they will have the nutritional value of that food. Contact them via email or on the phone and have them send you their nutritional information for the product in question. If you cannot find the nutritional value of each individual ingredient of the recipe, you may have to do this for each item used in the recipe. Though this may be tedious, it is the only way to know the nutritional value of a recipe.
