How to Play AVI Files on a PPC

Easily play AVI files on your PPC using "DivX Mobile Player."

Pocket PCs (PPC) running Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system come with Windows Media Player Mobile, which is a scaled-down version of Windows Media Player for desktop computers. However, Windows Media Player Mobile is only capable of playing WMV video files. In order to play AVI files on your Pocket PC, you will need to install separate third-party software. "DivX Mobile Player" is a free solution that is capable of playing a variety of file formats.

Instructions

1. Download the DivX Mobile zip file to your personal computer (see Resources).

2. Unzip the file using WinZip or a similar program.

3. Double-click the executable file (.exe), and connect your Pocket PC to your computer using the USB dock.

4. Wait for "ActiveSync" to automatically connect, and follow the on-screen instructions to install DivX Mobile Player.

5. Disconnect your device once the installation is complete.

6. Tap the "Start" button in the top bar of your Pocket PC.

7. Select "DivX Mobile Player" from the list of programs.

8. Click "Open," and select "Browse" to locate an AVI file. Tap "OK" to begin playing the video.
