How to Use the Internet Gateway Device Discovery & Control Client

The Microsoft Exchange Server software has a component called the "Internet Gateway Device Discovery & Control Client" that is used to help Exchange administrators simplify the process of connecting the Exchange Server software to a gateway device on a corporate network. A gateway device is one that sits between the Internet and the internal network, to help monitor and control information that flows back and forth.

Instructions

    • 1

Log in to the Exchange Server as the local Administrator.

    • 2

Click "Start," open "All Programs," click "Exchange," then click "Exchange Server 2010."

    • 3

Open the "Settings" tab, then click on the "Advanced Settings" tab.

    • 4

Click on the "Gateway Device Discovery & Control Client" button, check "Automatically find and configure gateway connection" and click "Next."

    • 5

Wait for about 30 seconds for Exchange to probe the local network and automatically detect the gateway's configuration.

    • 6

Click "Finish" to complete the process.
