How to Paint Jars for Christmas

How to Paint Jars for Christmas thumbnail
You can use Christmas jars to hold special treasures during the holidays.

During the winter holidays, it is common to buy gifts from a department store for your family and friends. However, these types of gifts can often feel generic and impersonal. One alternative is to make handmade gifts that will show your loved ones that you care about them enough to make something for them by hand. For example, you can transform a basic glass jar into a seasonal container by decorating it with magazine pictures and paint.

Instructions

    • 1

Pour 1/4 cup of craft glue into a bowl and add 1/4 cup of water. Mix well to completely dilute the glue.

    • 2

Cut out Christmas images from magazines, including holiday images such as trees, angels, presents and candy canes.

    • 3

Paint the diluted glue over the outside of a glass Mason jar.

    • 4

Place the magazine cut-outs onto the glued jar.

    • 5

Paint a second coat of diluted craft glue over the magazine cut-outs. Allow the glue to dry completely.

    • 6

Paint around the edges of the holiday pictures onto the decoupaged jar using acrylic paint. Let the paint dry.

    • 7

Cut a length of ribbon to measure 12 inches long.

    • 8

Tie the ribbon into a bow around the rim of the decorated jar.

    • 9

Repeat this process with as many Christmas jars as you require.
