How to Dance With Pom Poms
Dancing with pom-poms is more about posture and positioning of the body than the pom-poms themselves. You can just grab a pair of pom-poms and dance around, but if you would like to use pom-poms the way cheerleaders do, you will need to be aware of a few pom-pom basics. Maintaining good posture and straight wrists are the two of the most important parts of pom-pom dancing.

Grip one pom-pom in each hand. Create a fist around the handle of the pom-pom with your thumb on the outside of your fist.

Maintain good posture. Stand up straight, push your shoulders back and down. Keep your neck straight and your chin up.

Do not break the line between your arm and your wrist. Your wrists should not bend; instead, your arms should bend at your elbows.

Keep your pom-poms in your peripheral view. The pom-poms should stay close to your body unless your dance routine requires otherwise.

Learn the pom-pom terminology and basic techniques. There are a few techniques such as "clap," "hips," "high v," "low v," "T position," "touchdown" and "tabletop" that are used in most cheerleading pom-pom routines. The techniques require different placement of your arms, the pom-poms and various movements.

Practice using the pom-poms without bending your wrists and watching your posture while learning the various techniques.
