Create a virtual assistant portfolio on Elance (see Resources). Go to the website and sign up by providing the required information. Registration is free. When you have an account, log in to make your portfolio. Click "Work" at the top of the page, and click "Find Work." Click "My Profile" and select "Edit." Click "Portfolio" and upload your previous work pieces. Upload as many as possible so a potential employer doesn't have to request sample works related to a specific subject.

Register on Guru (see Resources). Fill out the registration form by providing the required information. After you have made your account, click "Build Profile" and upload your previous works. Also specify your niche, location and industry.

Sign up on oDesk (see Resources). After you have made an account as a freelancer, go to the "Make Profile" page. Provide the required information, including objective, previous project details and other information you may find necessary to provide.
