How to Replace a PT Cruiser Power Seat Switch

Some PT Cruiser models are equipped with power seats rather than manual seats, allowing you to adjust the seat by pressing a switch. If your seats no longer adjust when you push the button, the switch may be faulty. The power seat switch is attached to a plastic panel on the side of the seat. You can remove and replace the power seat switch with ease. For compatibility, make sure that you purchase a factory replacement power seat switch.

Things You'll Need

  • Wrench
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Shut off the PT Cruiser's engine and open its hood. Turn the nut on the negative battery cable with a wrench to loosen it. Lift the cable away to disconnect the negative battery cable.

  • Open the driver's side door and kneel down to view the outboard edge of the seat, where the power seat switch is located. Remove the two Phillips screws from the plastic panel.

  • Grasp the plastic panel and pull it off. Examine its backside. Unplug the wiring harness attached to the power seat switch.

  • Remove the two Phillips screws from the backside of the power seat switch. This mounts it to the plastic panel.

  • Separate the power seat switch from the plastic panel. Discard the old power seat switch or set it to the side.

  • Insert the new switch into the mount on the panel's backside. Ensure that the control is exposed on the other side of the plastic panel. Insert and tighten the two power seat switch screws.

  • Plug the wiring harness into the new power seat switch. Reattach the panel to the side of the seat.

  • Insert and tighten the two Phillips screws to secure the panel and the switch. Reconnect the negative battery cable and turn the ignition on. Test the new power seat switch to make sure that it's operating properly.
