How to Donate Prom Dresses in the Louisiana Area
Next time you clean out your closet and come across your old prom dresses, don't throw them away or shove them in the far back corner of your closet once again; donate them to charity in Louisiana. Donating prom dresses to a prom dress charity will allow a girl who otherwise can't afford to go to her prom have the night of her life in a dress that might be old and worthless to you, but brand new and beautiful to her.

1
Clean your prom dress and check it for damage. No girl wants to go to her prom in a dirty dress. If your dress has rips or tears in it that cannot be fixed, it cannot be donated.

Contact charities with Louisiana locations to donate your dress. Donatemydress.org is a national resource promoting the donation of gently-used prom gowns to less fortunate girls. Their website provides a list of nonprofit charities specializing in prom dress donations in every state. Louisiana charities include Becca's Closet and the Cinderella Project, with multiple locations throughout the state of Louisiana.

Ask about the donation process at your chosen charity. The Cinderella Project and Becca's Closet have drop off locations throughout Louisiana open year-round; all you have to do is deliver your prom gowns and/or accessories when you have the time.

Drop off your prom dress, and any prom accessories you might have, to your charity. Prom dress charities accept jewelry, handbags and shoes appropriate for prom as well as dresses. Obtain a tax receipt to keep for your income tax records. Your dress donation is eligible for an income tax deduction on your income tax return.
If you are not near either charity, mail your donation to one of their locations. Obtain the address for mailing by calling the main office of your charity.
