How to Install a Pet Safe Fence
The PetSafe underground fence is used to keep dogs in the yard without putting up a wooden or chain-link fence. The wire is buried underground. When the dog wearing the receiver collar nears the hidden fence, it hears a warning beep, and if the dog continues, it will receive a shock from the collar, which has two probes touching the dog's skin. The fence must be installed correctly to work with the collar and indoor transmitter. Does this Spark an idea?

- Spray paint (or line chalk)

1
Plan the boundary and mark it with spray paint or line chalk. Determine where in the house you will mount the transmitter. This should be on an outside wall where you can drill small hole and near a wall outlet.
-
2
Mount the transmitter on the wall using the screws with the kit and a screwdriver. Do not plug the transmitter into the wall outlet. Connect the ground wire to the terminal on the transmitter. Connect the other end of the ground wire to the screw holding the outlet faceplate on the outlet. Wind out the screw a little, wrap the wire around the screw and screw it back in so it is tight.

3
Drill a 3/8- inch hole through the interior wall to the outside. The hole can be to the side of the transmitter or 1 inch under the transmitter. Feed one end of the boundary wire into the house through the hole. Connect the wire to one terminal on the transmitter.
-
4
Make a 3-inch trench along the chalk or paint line using a lawn edger or spade shovel. You just need to make a cut in the grass and do not need to dig out the grass. If you need to place the wire over concrete, use the concrete saw to cut a 2 inch cut across the concrete following the paint or chalk line. If you need to make corners, make the corners rounded and not a sharp 90-degree angle.
-
5
Take the wire spool and lay out the wire. Have someone follow behind you and place the wire in the trench. Do not pull on the wire, but make sure the wire is flat and straight with no bends.
-
6
Feed the end of the boundary wire through the hole in the house wall. Connect the wire to the second terminal opposite of the where you connected the first wire. Plug in the transmitter. The green loop indicator light will glow indicating that the wire is active. Unplug the transmitter.
-
7
Tamp down the grass to cover the buried wire. Use silicon caulk to fill in the concrete trench. Add enough caulk so the caulking is flush with the concrete surface. Plug in the transmitter.
