How to Cover Electrical Floor Wire

Save

Exposed wires lying on your floor are not only an eyesore, but they are also a safety hazard. Animals may chew on the cords and be electrocuted, and people may trip over them, which can not only injure the person but damage the cord as well. Make your home a safer one and hide the wires on your floor in floor cord covers.

Things You'll Need

  • Floor cord cover
  • Scissors or utility knife
  • Double-sided tape
  • Measuring tape
  • Permanent marker

Wires in Corners

  • Measure the length of the floor from one corner to the other using a measuring tape.

  • Measure the floor cord cover and cut it to the same length as the floor using scissors or a utility knife.

  • Insert the wires into the slit on the underside of the floor cord cover. Push the wires in until they are completely inside of the cover. Cut a slit on the bottom, along the entire length of the floor cord cover, if it does not have a pre-cut slit.

  • Apply double-side tape along the entire length of the underside of the floor cord cover.

  • Align the floor cord cover in the corner of the floor and the adjacent wall, taped side down.

  • Adhere the floor cord cover the floor by pressing the double-sided tape onto the surface of the floor. Make sure the floor cord cover securely adheres to the floor by gently pulling it away from the floor --- if it doesn't stick, add more tape to the bottom.

Wires in Archways / Middle of Floor

  • Measure the length of the floor between the archway. If your wires run across the middle of the floor, measure the length of the floor between the two walls.

  • Measure the floor cord cover and cut it to the same length as the floor using scissors or a utility knife.

  • Insert the wires into the slit on the underside of the floor cord cover, making sure they are completely enclosed in the cover. Cut a slit on the bottom, along the entire length of the floor cord cover, if it does not have a pre-cut slit.

  • Apply double-sided tape to the bottom of the floor cord cover.

  • Align the floor cord cover between each end of the archway or between the two walls, making sure it is straight. Make sure the taped side is facing downward.

  • Adhere it to the floor by pressing the floor cord cover toward the ground. Test the adherence by gently pulling the floor cord cover away from the floor, making sure it is secure.
