How to Apply Toyota Touch Up Paint

by Leonardo R. Grabkowski

Touch up paint comes in small bottles. A small brush is attached to the cap, used for applying the paint. You can purchase Toyota factory touch up paint from your nearby Toyota dealer. You can also order it online, however, you should verify it is factory touch up paint and make sure the color codes match up. Touch up paint is only intended for small scratches.

Step 1

Match the color code on the bottle of touch up paint with the color code on your Toyota. Locate your Toyota's color code on the inside door jamb (driver's side door). If the numbers do not match, do not use the touch up paint, even if the color look similar.

Step 2

Wash your Toyota and allow it to dry. Shake the bottle of touch up paint for 5 to 10 seconds.

Step 3

Apply the touch up paint to the scratch, using the bottle's small brush. Keep your hand steady when applying the touch up paint. Apply one application, and then let it dry for 30 to 45 minutes.

Step 4

Apply a second coat of paint to the scratch. Wipe away any excess paint dripping around the sides. Let the second coat dry for 30 to 45 minutes.

Step 5

Apply a small amount of clearcoat over the painted area. This step is optional, but recommended to achieve an attractive blend. Clearcoat touch up is universal; you can purchase a small bottle with an application brush at any automotive parts store.
