You're off on that long-awaited trip to Europe or a romantic weekend getaway,
wondering which handbag to bring. Consider safety as well as style when making your decision.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Think safety first. You'll want to keep your money, traveler's checks, room keys and passport safe no matter where you travel. Look at handbags with zip tops, flaps, velrco or secure button closures.

  2. Step 2

Make sure the straps are strong. Consider long or adjustable straps that allow you to wear your bag across your body for extra protection.

  3. Step 3

Consider lightweight and flexible material for easy packing and fewer wrinkles when you unpack. Nylon and crochet bags work very well.

  4. Step 4

Look for bags with inside and outside pockets and multiple inside compartments. These will allow you to keep all your travel-related items organized.

  5. Step 5

Choose a color that will complement the majority of your travel wardrobe. If your wardrobe is really mixed, go for a neutral color like taupe or navy.

  6. Step 6

Take a second bag along for your evenings out. A small handheld bag will accomodate your cosmetics, room key and money. Consider wearing a money pouch under your clothes to protect your credit cards, traveler's checks, extra money and passport.

on 6/30/2006 Ladies, If you really just want to take one bag try a medium sized bag in white or black, in leather (or leather look). This will go with practically anything and can be dressed up or down.
If you know that you'll be attending a formal function then take a clutch bag. A small one will suffice as you will only be carrying some change, your key and make-up.
Gents, a casual black nylon bag worn across the body or a lightweight rucksack worn on your back or over one shoulder is best. Obviously you only need a casual bag as you won't be taking any to a formal occasion.

on 11/22/2005 I always take a tote style handbag on the plane - you can easily fit in a book and other necessities and then a smaller bag with a long strap. The little bag is perfect for sightseeing and nights out on the town - has a pocket for money, credit cards and holds a camera, sunglasses etc... Also, it is small, lightweight, and takes up almost no room in a suitcase. Also, because of the size, the long strap and lightweight material, it can easily be worn under clothes or a jacket in those not so safe locales.
