How to Remove the Lock From a Schlage F51 Lock Without a Key

Save

For over 50 years, Schlage has been manufacturing locks and security devices for both the home and commerical sectors. Their F51 series of locks come in a wide variety of styles, shapes and locking mechanisms. If you find yourself wanting to remove the lock from a Schlage F51 lock without a key, don't worry; it's possible. You will, however, need to be able to access the lock from the inside.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat bladed screwdriver
  • Hex wrench
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Position yourself on the inside of the door where the Schlage F51 lock is mounted.

  • Remove the door handle. This may be held on in a couple of different ways, depending on your Schlage lock. Look on the underside of the handle. Locate the screw holding the handle on the lock. This could be either a flat bladed screw or a hex screw. Loosen the screw with the appropriate tool. Pull the handle off the lock.

  • Insert the edge of a flat bladed screwdriver underneath the flat lock cover that sits flush with the door face. Pry this off the handle.

  • Use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen the two screws underneath the knob cover.

  • Pull the knob and cylinder out of the door frame.

  • Look inside the door cylinder. You should see the back of the front part of the Schlage F51 lock. Push this out of the cylinder with your fingers so that it falls out of the door.

  • Insert a screwdriver into the lock catch inside the door cylinder. Pull the catch to the left to release the door latch. Pull the door towards you.

  • Loosen the two screws on the door latch on the side of the door. Pull the latch out of the door.
