Body butter is a thick, highly moisturizing cream intended to be applied to the body. Store-bought varieties of body butter may contain chemicals, some of which can cause reactions in sensitive individuals. To avoid harmful chemicals and save money, it’s possible to make your own light and fluffy whipped body butter at home. This all-natural body butter is useful for hydrating and softening dry and/or cracked skin all over the body. Because of its lack of preservatives and chemicals, this butter has approximately a six-month shelf life.
Things You'll Need
- 1/4 cup coconut oil
- 1 cup raw shea butter
- Medium-sized pot
- 1 tbsp. castor oil
- 2 tbsp. rosehip or jojoba oil
- 1 tbsp. hemp oil
- 1 tbsp. honey
- Wooden spoon
- Electric mixer
- 15 drops lavender essential oil
- Jar or similar container
Heat the coconut oil and shea butter in the pot over low heat. Continue heating until the oil and butter are melted. Turn the heat off and remove the pot.
Add the castor, rosehip and hemp oils. Add the honey and stir everything together with the wooden spoon, mixing well.
Let the mixture sit by itself for 15 minutes.
Mix the solution for five minutes with the electric mixer to whip it up. Stop for five minutes. Alternate mixing and resting this way until the mixture has the consistency of whipped cream. Add the lavender essential oil in the last five minutes of whipping.
Scoop the body butter into a sterile jar or other container with a secure lid once the mixture has cooled. Unused portions should be stored in the refrigerator to prolong shelf life.
