How to Reduce With Embroidery Software

Reduce machine embroidery patterns using software.

Having the option to reduce or descale an embroidery design's size is beneficial, especially if your embroidery machine's hoop capabilities are smaller than the design. Knowing how to reduce a design can increase the embroidery machine's usability, and allow you to place smaller versions of the design on items that the original design would not fit. This in turn gives you many new design possibilities.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

  1. Reducing With Your Embroidery Machine

    • 1

Choose the embroidery design you want to reduce, and bring it up on your machine's screen.

    • 2

Click on "size" in the embroidery design screen. The screen will change to a scaled-down display version of your design. Depending on your machine, a scroll menu will appear or there will be an option for you to manually input the desired size.

    • 3

Make the needed changes according to your machine. If your machine has a scroll-down box, the top scroll is to increase size, and the bottom scroll is to decrease size. Manually input the desired size or press or scroll the reduce button until you reach the desired size.

    • 4

Accept the changes, and return to the design page by pressing the "finished" button. Your design will return to the stitch out page, and you will be ready to stitch out your embroidery design.

    Reducing With Embroidery Software

Load the embroidery program onto your computer. The program will load, and the main page will appear. You will see a hoop on the page, and grid lines.

    • 6

Right-click on the "file" button on the upper left side of the page. Right-click on the embroidery file folder. Choose the design you want to reduce. The design will appear inside the gridded hoop.

    • 7

Right-click re-size in the "tool" menu. The design will now be inside a box with skinny lines, and arrows in each corner. Cursor with your mouse over to the top right arrow, and click on it. As you click on the arrow, move the mouse cursor toward the bottom left arrow until you are satisfied with the design's new size.

    • 8

Save the design to your embroidery file folder or send it directly to your sewing machine. Save to the machine or immediately stitch out the design.

Tips & Warnings

  • For optimal results, read your embroidery machine's manual before attempting to resize a design.

  • If you make a mistake, click on the "undo" button located on the tool bar or exit out of the page.

  • Experiment with different design techniques by combining and resizing large and small designs.

  • Some store-bought embroidery designs may not stitch out correctly when resized. If this occurs, check the quality of your stabilizer.

  • There are different stabilizers for different types of fabrics and embroidery designs. Make sure that your design, fabric and stabilizer work together before stitching out.

  • Make sure you use the correct type of needle for the type of embroidery you are doing.
