Donate expired coupons to military families.

You may think those expired coupons are worthless, but they still have some value. Military families are often on a tight budget and can use expired grocery coupons on their base, as long as they are no more than 6 months expired. According to their website, the Overseas Coupon Program has been sending expired coupons to military families since 1992. You can donate your expired coupons as a way to help out the families of our troops with their expenses.

Go through your expired coupons and pull out the ones that are expired no longer than 2 months. This ensures the military families still have time to use them when the coupons arrive. They can't use any that are expired longer than 6 months.

Put the coupons in piles according to food and non-food items as you're sorting out the old ones. Non-food items might be health and beauty aids, cleaning supplies, pet food or over-the-counter medicines, among other things.

Place each pile into two plastic zipper bag, one marked "food" and the other "non-food." Put these baggies into a larger envelope.

Find a military base to which to send the coupons on the Overseas Coupon Program website. Choose a base from the Base List. Be sure the base you select is accepting coupons. If the base listing says, "Yes, please adopt us!" the base is accepting coupons.
