How to Repair a Bad Floppy Disc

How to Repair a Bad Floppy Disc thumbnail
Floppy discs often need to be formatted in order to correct storage problems.

Most computer systems no longer come with an installed floppy disc drive as the format has been replaced by external storage devices, such as flash drives and external hard drives. However, if you are running a floppy disc drive and have found a specific disc no longer works correctly, you need to fix the issue by formatting the disc. This will remove corrupt data and damaged sectors of the disc to return the equipment back to its correct running state.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the floppy disc into the floppy disc drive on the computer system.

    • 2

Click "Start," "My Computer," then right-click the floppy disc icon.

    • 3

Click "Format" from the pull-down menu to load the format application.

    • 4

Click "Start" and wait for the computer to format the floppy disc.

Tips & Warnings

  • If formatting cannot repair the floppy disc, the disc may not be repairable.
