How to Stop a Pop Up Site thumbnail
Pop up sites are rife on the Web.

A pop up site is a web browser window that opens when you click on a link or visit a website. These windows usually contain unsolicited advertisements, and are often inappropriate or unpleasant. Use the built-in Internet Explorer pop up blocker to stop pop up sites from interfering with your Web browsing.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the "Start" menu, click on "All Programs," then click on "Internet Explorer."

    • 2

Click on the "Tools" menu located on the top menu bar. Select "Pop-up Blocker" from the drop-down list. Click on "Pop-up Blocker Settings."

    • 3

Type the full domain name of the website you were surfing when the pop up window appeared into the text box.

    • 4

Click the "Add" button, then the "Save" button. Internet Explorer will now stop the pop up site.

Tips & Warnings

  • Third-party software can provide additional protection against bothersome sites.

  • Some websites, like those of banks, use pop ups for legitimate purposes. Pop up blocking software may block these sites as well.
