How to Install Vinyl Railing at a 45-degree Angle
Handrails are one of the most basic safety precautions needed for staircases. They let a user hold onto something for stability while going up or down stairs. This is especially important for homes or buildings that will be accessed by elderly, handicapped, young children learning to walk or others who may have problems negotiating the stairs.
Vinyl is a long-lasting material that will be able to withstand the elements of nature if installed outdoors. A staircase at 45 degrees requires installation of the vinyl handrail at 45 degrees, because the handrail and the staircase must be aligned with one another.

1
Find the studs in the wall at the place where the handrail will be installed. Run a stud finder along the wall until it lights up or makes a noise. Mark each stud with a pencil. The handrail will have to be attached to the wall studs so that it can bear weight.
-
2
Measure 30 inches up from each stair that is aligned with a stud, using a tape measure. Mark each measurement on the stud above the stair.

3
Install handrail mounting brackets at each mark. Insert and tighten screws through the holes of the mounting brackets and the wall at the marks. Do this for all of the mounting brackets.
-
4
Make a 45-degree cut at the ends of all the handrail pieces with a miter saw. This will create edges that are perpendicular to the ground. It will also allow you to join the angled handrail pieces to any other pieces that are used at flat landings.
-
5
Insert the railing through the loops of the mounting brackets. Insert a screw through the hole on the front of each mounting bracket and into the railing. This will hold the railing in place, preventing it from turning or sliding downward. Do this for each piece of railing, butting one piece against the other, until the length of the staircase is covered.
