Fortunately, it is possible to get a replacement title from the State of Florida for your motor vehicle, though it may cost you some time and money.

Instructions

    • 1

Download Form HSVM 82101 from the official website for the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. You may also pick up this form from your local DHSMV office.

    • 2

Fill out the form, making careful note of your vehicle identification number, license plate number and odometer reading.

    • 3

Bring the completed form, along with supporting materials, to your county's DHSMV office. You will need to bring proof of identity, such as a driver's license or ID card.

    • 4

Bring along proof of loan payoff, if you have paid off your car loan, so that the lien holder can be removed from the new title.

    • 5

Document the change if your address has changed since getting the vehicle. Acceptable documentation includes:

Driver's license with the new address

Paid receipt, contract or turn-on order for phone or utilities

      Proof of homestead exemption

      Rental or lease agreement

Current year motor vehicle, mobile home, or boat registration

Copy of an insurance policy for a motor vehicle, mobile home or boat.

Bring a method of payment for your duplicate title fee: $75.25 for an electronic title or $77.75 for a title to be printed and mailed to you, at 2011 prices.
