How to Design a Free Banner for a Website thumbnail
Create a free banner online to advertise your business.

A banner is a great way to advertise your website, business or blog. Create a banner ad with your company name, website, email address and call to action. It is easy to create your own banner ad that looks like it was created by a professional designer. Use free online software to design your ad, then copy the code or download it to use it on your own site.

Instructions

    • 1

Log onto a banner ad designer tool, such as AdDesigner.com or BannerMaker.com. Both sites are free, however AdDesigner requires you to sign up for a membership in order to create an ad. BannerMaker does not require a membership. For the sake of this article, BannerMaker will be used as an example, but both sites operate in the same general way.

    • 2

Click on the size and shape banner ad that you want. BannerMaker has more than 20 options, so you can design an ad to fit anywhere on your website. You can also create a custom banner.

    • 3

Click on the "Background" tab. On the "Background" page, there are two colored bars, one for the top color of the banner, and one for the bottom color of the banner. Click the color bar and select the colors you like for your ad. This will create a gradient in your ad. If you don't want a gradient, choose the exact same color for both the top and bottom color. You can also use your own image as a background. Simply click "Upload" to add it to your ad.

    • 4

Click on the "Text" tab. Write the text for each line, then edit the color, font, size, opacity and angle for each line. Preview your text in your sample banner above. Use the horizontal positioning tabs to move the text around the ad.

    • 5

Click on the "Border" tab. Choose the size of the border by dragging the "width" bar. Change the color by clicking the color square.

    • 6

Click on the "Effects" tab. Preview and choose the type of effects you want. Use the "Amount" bar to select how dramatic you want the effects to be.

    • 7

Click on the "Save" tab. Type in the name of the link where you want the banner to be saved. It will be hosted on BannerMaker.com, so you can choose any link as long as it isn't already in use. Choose whether you want to download the banner or print it. You can also get the HTML code for the link. When you are finished, click "Save The Banner."
