How to Transfer a Gym Membership
If you are moving house, or your financial circumstances have changed in recent months, you may be unwilling or unable to continue your gym membership at your current location. If you wish to join another gym, you may be put off by sign-up fees or other initial payments. However, there are opportunities for you to transfer or swap your gym membership with somebody via the Internet. Doing this is an informal and simple way of transferring your gym membership to fit your lifestyle.

1
Find out if your existing membership applies to other gyms. Often large chain gyms will allow you to be a member of all of the gyms, and not just your local one. If you are moving to a new area, you can simply find your local branch of this gym, and your membership will apply.

2
Log on to the Internet and head to a website that will help you transfer your gym membership. Sites such as Transfermymembership.com, Gumtree or Craigslist (see Resources) all have areas where you can see people who are willing to transfer a gym membership.

Send a message to the person who is selling or transferring their gym membership, and see if he would be prepared to swap for your membership. If he will, you can meet and exchange membership cards. Let your gym know that you are doing this, as you may have to change the paperwork of your membership.

Complete any necessary paperwork at the gym. This will usually involving transferring any bank details and medical forms. When you transfer to the new gym, you will have to repeat this process. You may have to undergo a medical and a gym induction at the new gym, or get a cover note from your previous gym, which may suffice.
