How to Prepare Hard Red Winter Wheat
Hard red wheat is a hardy winter wheat that possesses a rich amber color. It's dense and rich in protein while being low in fat and calories. Hard red winter wheat can be prepared at home and used in a wide range of recipes from breads and pies to hot cereals and casserole toppings.

- 1 cup hard red winter wheat
- 1 cup flax seed
- Electric coffee grinder
- 2 cups water
- Medium saucepan
- Milk
- Sugar
- Butter

Add the hard red winter wheat and the flax seed in whole form to the electric coffee grinder. A standard coffee grinder can hold about 2 cups of the dry grain.

Hold down the lid of the grinder to keep it from coming off and hold down the power switch. Do this for a continuous three minutes.

Check the grain inside of the grinder. If it is at the texture you desire, pour it into a bowl. Otherwise, grind it for intervals of two minutes until it reaches the texture you want.
Red Wheat Cereal

Add 2 cups of water to a medium saucepan. Bring the water to a rolling boil.

Add the ground hard red winter wheat to the boiling water. Let it boil uncovered for two minutes. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cover the pan.

Simmer the wheat cereal for 30 minutes. The end result should be a rich gruel cereal of a light amber hue.

Stir in 1 tbsp. of butter, 1/4 cup of milk and sugar to taste. Serve immediately for a warm and hearty breakfast that is low in fat.
