How to Make Zen V Work With Win 98

The functional yet stylish Zen V portable MP3 player allows you to enjoy your music, as well as store photos and make voice recordings. The Zen V has a drag and drop feature which utilizes the Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) in Windows OS for data transfers. Although the Zen V player doesn't come with support utilities for the Windows 98 OS, you can install the compatible drivers to make it operational for use with a computer running Win 98.

Instructions

    • 1

Download the Zen V compatible driver utility and save it on your computer (see Resources).

    • 2

Unzip the downloaded file. Double-click on the "MTP9x-2k.exe" file to install the MTP utility on your computer. Follow the on-screen installation instructions until the process is completed.

    • 3

Connect your Zen V device to the computer using the USB cable. When prompted by the computer to install drivers for the device, browse to the downloaded folder location; select the "ctpdmt.inf" file and then click "OK."

    • 4

Download a compatible media player program onto your computer (see Resources). Run the setup file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the application.

    • 5

Start the media player program once the installation is complete. Your Zen V player will be recognized as a media device by the program. You can now transfer music and data files to your Zen V from your computer.
