Vegemite is a sandwich spread popular in Australia. Made with yeast extract, spices, and vegetables, people generally spread Vegemite on bread. Like peanut butter and jelly in the U.S., Vegemite sandwiches are a popular food choice for many Australian children and adults. Vegemite has the consistency of peanut butter, and if the spread drops onto clothing, upholstery, carpets, or fabric, it can leave a stain. The quicker you deal with a Vegemite stain, the easier it will be to remove.
Things You'll Need
- Dry-cleaning solvent
- Talcum powder
Remove any excess Vegemite by scraping it off with a spoon.
Dampen a rag with white spirits. White spirits is a dry-cleaning solvent you can find in the laundry or cleaning section of department stores.
Blot the stain with the damp rag until it is thoroughly saturated. Sprinkle talcum powder directly over the dampened stain.
Let the talcum powder dry completely before brushing it off. If the stain is on carpet, use a vacuum to remove the talcum powder.
Launder machine washable fabrics as you normally would.
Tips & Warnings
- If you cannot find white spirits, any type of dry-cleaning solvent will work.
- It may take several repetitions of the process to completely remove the Vegemite stain.
