Things You'll Need

  • Baby shampoo
  • 1 qt. warm water
  • Bowl
  • Washcloth
  • Paper towels
  • Antibacterial soap
  • Wire rack

Instructions

  1. Brushes

      Combine a dime-size amount of baby shampoo with 1 qt. of warm water in a bowl. Stir the water to mix the shampoo.

      Dampen a washcloth with the baby shampoo and water. Wipe the brushes with the damp washcloth to remove the makeup. Avoid scrubbing too hard or you can damage the bristles.

      Place the brushes under running water to rinse them. Shape the brushes with your fingers. Place them flat on paper towels to allow them to dry. Avoid standing them up because this can damage the bristles.

    Sponges

      Add two to three drops of antibacterial soap to a bowl filled with warm water. Soak the makeup sponge in the bowl for 15 to 20 minutes.

      Rub the sponge with your fingers to help remove any excess makeup. Remove the sponge from the bowl and squeeze it to remove the soap and water.

      Rinse the makeup sponge under warm running water until it runs clear. Squeeze the sponge again to remove the excess water.

      Place the sponge on a wire rack or hang it to dry. This will allow the air to circulate around the sponge so that it dries completely.

Tips & Warnings

  • Throw away makeup sponges when they begin to break or tear.

  • Allow the sponge to dry completely before you store it or mold and bacteria can grow on the sponge.

  • Avoid using harsh cleaning chemicals on the brushes because they can irritate the skin.
