How to Fix My Bowling Shoes to Slide More

How to Fix My Bowling Shoes to Slide More thumbnail
Help perfect your bowling game with the right amount of slide.

Many areas of a bowler's game can be tweaked to personal preference. When it comes to shoes, some bowlers prefer to slide more before they release the ball. Some shoes have lots of slide when they are new, but the more you wear your shoes, the less traction they will have, especially if you wear them away from the hardwood. Don't increase your slide with powder. Other bowlers could slip and throw off their game or be injured; instead, try a few other tactics that will have you sliding with ease.

Things You'll Need

  • Shoe protector

Instructions

    • 1

Scrub the bottom of the sliding shoe with your steel brush. Move the brush from the toe of the shoe to the heel. Less slide can be accomplished by brushing from side to side.

    • 2

Tighten the shoelaces when you wear them. This will help you become one with your shoe so that you can move it forward, feeling and cultivating the sliding motion.

    • 3

Protect your shoe with a shoe protector whenever you leave the wood bowling area. This will make sure nothing creates grooves in your shoe, which can increase traction. You also don't want the shot motion to be dirty, sticky or wet.

    • 4

Wear a shoe slide to have a consistent approach on the lane. Elastic straps hold the slider to the shoe after you slide it in place.

Tips & Warnings

  • For more traction, which is sometimes desired on kids' shoes, put a buckskin layer on the sole. This can be done by a shoe repair center worker.
