How to Use Weed & Feed Fertilizer

Weed & feed is a product manufactured for residential use to fertilize a lawn and kill weeds at the same time. Some contain extras, such as additional nitrogen or extra minerals. It is a time-saving product for the home gardener and comes in granule and liquid formulas. The liquid form generally comes in a container that includes a hose attachment so that all you need to do is attach it and spray the lawn according to package directions.       Mow the lawn three or four days before applying the weed & feed.

      Water the lawn prior to the weed & feed application. You should not water for two days after application, so choose an application day during a week when no rain is in the forecast.

      Calibrate the spreader according to the application rate suggested on the weed & feed bag.

      Add the product to the spreader, at the amount suggested on the label.

      Walk the lawn in strips as you spread the weed & feed. Keep the strips close together and try not to overlap to avoid doubling the application on the strips' seams.

Tips & Warnings

  • Weed & feed products are not recommended for centipede grass lawns.
